The International English Language Testing System (IELTS)

The International English Language Testing System( IELTS) is a standardized test designed to assess the English language proficiency of non-native English speakers. The test is accepted by universities, immigration authorities, and professional associations around the world.

The test has two interpretations: the academic interpretation and the general training interpretation. The academic interpretation is designed for those who plan to study at the undergraduate or graduate level in an English-speaking country. The general training interpretation is intended for those who want to immigrate to an English-speaking country, work in an English-speaking terrain, or take over non-academic training.

The test is divided into four sections: speaking, writing, reading, and listening. The listening and speaking portions of the test are the same for both administrations, but the reading and writing portions are different.

IELTS scores are reported on a nine-band scale, with 1 being the lowest and 9 being the topmost. Different associations and institutions have different score conditions, so it's important to check the specific conditions for your intended use of the test.
